Simple but cute.

Table for Two has five (5) stories squeezed into this little book. Having not read the synopsis printed on the back of the book, I had no idea that this was written with various characters and settings. When I got through the first story, I thought the second part was a continuation of the pervious story. It got pretty weird to me that it was a sudden change in the character's portrayal. That's when I decided to check the back... whoops! My bad.

So let's dissect:

The first story is entitled Fresh, where long-time couple, Mandy and Tristan, are on the brink of ending their relationship. There's not much to say about this story. Only that Tristan reminds me so much of one of my ex-boyfriends. A guy who's always late? Been there, done that! As far as the flashback on how Tristan started to court Mandy, I immediately felt dislike for him. I like a guy who would go after what he wants and wouldn't just "clue in" his feelings but rather say them directly, because seriously, I'm no mind-reader.

Timeout is the second story. Here readers meet Jill, a girl who has problems with picking the right guy for her. Her brother pesters her that she's dating the wrong guys and insists she take a break from dating for a month. I don't know what happened here [if a month has passed or not] but she eventually chose between Robbie and Jack. I, for one, don't understand her choice and what made her decide on it.

The third story, All the Best, is about Carl trying to stop his best friend from marrying some girl. He feels that they have yet to decide that they are ready for a lifelong commitment such as this. Trying in vain to persuade his friend to change his mind, he forgets about his and Kim's (his girlfriend of many years) anniversary. I didn't like this story very much and there isn't much to think about.

This Closure, the title of the fourth story, tells the story of Lucas. A guy who hasn't gotten over a girl he had fallen in love with years ago. To be honest, Lucas is a pathetic idiot. I feel sorry for him but he's pathetic. As for Bettina, the girl he's so in love with, I don't know what he sees in her. In spite of what I said about Lucas, I feel worse about Bettina. She shouldn't have led him on.

Last, but not the least, Table for Two, is the highlight of this book, hence the title. You see, this is where all our stories collide. All the characters come into place in this small, insignificant coffee shop. And it seems that this is where the magic happens... It's a rather simple one compared to the other four but it's nice and sweet all the same. You truly can never know where you'll find true love...

Marla Miniano's Table for Two is kind of like those Hollywood movies with stellar star-studded cast of multiple stories that collide in one special event; like say, Valentine's Day or New Year's Eve (the actual movie titles). I don't really get why it need the change in perspectives but it was fun. Although short and a little vague on the details, I took pleasure in reading it.

This book was written in a smooth, easy to read style. The action was believable and interspersed with details that added to the depth of the narrative. The pace was fast enough to keep me interested, and the characters well developed. Overall, a very good read.

The Fog of War hides secrets

Gideon Gull, a bard and spy in training, is investigating a mysterious magical fog that seems to turn normal people into murderous crazy people. Not only that but he senses something in the fog, a presence he has not felt since he was a child. Now he sails on the river between Andoran and Taldor with a troop of fellow students to locate the source of the fog and destroy it, before a war begins that would bring the ruin of both countries.

Bards are the most underutilized character class in most role playing campaigns, but in the right hands they can be as powerful as a fighter or rogue. The author writes well of the skill of this group, from the dancer to the puppeteer, and brings all the characters to life. Twists and turns will lead the reader in all directions until you reach the end - but then again the journey is part of the fun. A must read for all fans of the series, and maybe bring out some new ideas for those players who are in need of a new character.

a tale of bards in Taldor

this book took me a few chapters to get into it.... I have never played a bard in every campaign i have been be in. I also don't think many of my fellow characters were bards in those campaigns either.....
So, this book is a delightful introduction into Bardic attributes and powers. The author does a good job of describing Bardic abilities and spells. Also, nearly all the characters of note are bards, and are delightfully clever and well spoken. The wit is really good, not laugh out loud good, but much better than many other sorcery and sword fantasies.
As to the story, well, the main plot is very good, with a mystery and sympathetic villain. I was never in doubt to the ending, as these books can't change the world in Pathfinder, and i was intrigued just the same. I recommend this book to any who like Pathfinder Series. I enjoy the Pathfinder Series, and this is an excellent book for that Series.

cartoony and young adult styled, not adult

Just all around not good. I was rooting for this book, because it covered a lot of crucial lore territory in the Pathfinder world - Taldor, Andoran, and the druids of the forests in between. Add in the very secretive Lion's blade organization and I read every page, hoping it would get better.

The plot is a Scooby Doo episode
The Lions blades comes off very cartoony as well.
The character interactions are DeGrassi High or some other teenage tv show.

It is not good.

I hate writing bad reviews - and its rare if you check mine - so let's focus on the positive for a moment.

- you have a character who is into puppetry as a serious artform, which is just awesome.
- a relatively strong case is made for non-democratic governments - the Taldor loyalists are believable in their discourse, not played off as simple crazies or power freaks.
- the poetry and song, especially the Andoran patriotic ones, are just fantastic. I wish i had a book with all of them collected in one place! Fantastic stuff.

If you are a Pathfinder junkie, fight your way through it and you will be grateful for the content you can glean from it. If you are just looking for a decent yarn, move on to something else.

James’s writings on cricket, Bob Marley and the counter-cosmogony of the Rastafari, and the Spanish epoch of Jamaican history (including a pioneering examination of Bernado de Balbuena, epic poet and Abbot of Jamaica 1562-1627).

Across this varied range of topics, a coherent and consistent thread of argument emerges from Wynter’s oeuvre. In the vein of C. L. R. James, she placed the history of Spanish Jamaica (and therefore the Caribbean) in the context of the founding of the post-1492 European settler colonies in the New World, which remained an indispensable element in the first stage of the institutionalization of the Western world system. Therefore, a central imperative of her initial work has always been to reconceptualize the history of the region, and therefore of the modern world, but doing so, from a world-systemic perspective; that is, no longer from the normative perspective of the settler archipelago, but rather more inclusively, from those of the neo-serf (i.e. Indian) and that of ex-slave (i.e. Negro) archipelagos; this latter, as what she defines, adapting Enrique Dussel’s terms, as the "gaze from below" perspective of "the ultimate underside of modernity."

Strongly influenced by Marx together with Black thinkers such as Aim� C�saire, Jean Price-Mars (seen in the Jonkunnu essay), W. E. B. Du Bois and Frantz Fanon, and with an appreciation of the insights brought by the New Studies of the Sixties (including that of Black redemptive co-humanist thought, feminism), Wynter’s work has sought, from its origin, to find a comprehensive explanatory system able to integrate these knowledges, ones born of struggle.

This seminal collection of essays explores a range of subjects, including centrally (as in the title essay) a critique of literary criticisms' approach to the new range of fiction which had exploded in the wake of the anti-colonial struggles in the British Caribbean. This as writers grappled with creating an autonomous sense of self to replace their previously mimetically accepted secondary human status as native colonial subjects and cheap "native" labor. It is therefore the above imperative which - when taken together with the major emphasis placed on the post-independence destitute plight of the category of the Rastafarian Bob Marley's shanty-town jobless underclass (today's globalized "planet of the slums") - which identifies the emancipatory project struggled for in these essays. A project which, although profoundly influenced by Marxian thought, seeks to invert its base/superstructure principle of material-economic causality in order to put forward, instead, from the perspective of the ultimate underside slave/colonial experiences of the post-1492 Caribbean, a new humanism; one now made, in the terms of the Caribbean Negritude poet Aime C�saire, "to the measure of the world."

About the Author
Floyd Vogt is a sixth-generation carpenter and contractor. His family operated a small business devoted to all phases of home construction, and he began working in the family business at age 15. After completing a B.A. in chemistry at the State University of New York College at Oneonta, Mr. Vogt returned to the field as a self-employed remodeler. In 1985 he began teaching in the Carpentry program at the State University of New York, Delhi. He has taught many courses, including light framing, advanced framing, math, energy-efficient construction, finish carpentry, finish masonry, and estimating. Mr. Vogt is currently a professor in the Construction Design-Build Management bachelor's degree program, where his course responsibilities include residential construction, AutoCAD, construction seminar, and physical science applications. He has also served as a carpentry regional coordinator for Skills-USA and as a post-secondary Skills-USA student advisor. Mr. Vogt is also the co-author or CARPENTRY, 6E and he is a member of a local town planning board.

This textbook includes plenty of useful information regarding the basics of carpentry. Some of the things include: types of wood, types of nails, saws, blades, manufacture of wood, etc.
