I just got this book 2 days ago and haven't put it down! What an eye OPENER; from being taught all my life about all these WHITE achievements in science and technological ADVANCES in research for our health benefit. Just to find out these "DISCOVERIES" were already here from AFRICAN KNOWLEDGE and disguised as some MODERN ADVANCEMENT! So this book is nice and really hits home for me being a woman of color and having a family to take care of. It's time for us BLACK FOLKS to start reconditioning our minds and realize that THIS AMERICAN GOVERNMENT DOESN'T HAVE OUR BEST INTEREST!!!! Please BROTHERS AND SISTERS READ!!! Knowledge is POWER :-D

About the Author
Robbie Burns has been a journalist and writer since he graduated in journalism from Harlow College in 1981. After starting life as a reporter and editor for various local newspapers, from 1988-1992 he was editor of ITV and Channel 4's teletext services. He also wrote ITV's daily teletext soap opera, 'Park Avenue', for five years. He then went on to freelance for various newspapers, including the Independent and the Sun, and also helped set up a financial news service for CNN. In 1997, he became editor for BSkyB's teletext services and set up their shares and finance service. While there he also set up various entertainment phone lines in conjunction with BSkyB, including a Buffy the Vampire Slayer phone line that made him nearly �250,000. He left full-time work in 2001 to trade and run his own businesses, which included a cafe in London that he later sold, doubling his money on the initial purchase. While at BSkyB, Robbie broadcast a diary of his share trades, which became hugely popular. He transferred the diary to his website, www.nakedtrader.co.uk, which became one of the most-read financial websites in the UK. Between 2002 and 2005 he wrote a column for the Sunday Times, 'My DIY Pension', featuring share buys and sells made for his pension fund which he runs himself in a SIPP. He managed to double the money in his pension fund from �40,000 to �80,000 in under three years, as chronicled in these articles. By mid-2011 he had turned it into �250,000. Robbie now writes a weekly column for ADVFN.com. Robbie has made a tax-free gain of well over �1,000,000 from trading shares since 1999, making a profit every year, even during market downturns. His public trades alone - detailed on his website - have made more than �900,000. He is also the author of The Naked Trader's Guide to Spread Betting. He lives in a riverside apartment on the Thames with his wife, Elizabeth, and young son Christopher. A useful book to read.

I am both an atheist and a regular follower of the author's blog the "Friendly Atheist", so I eagerly purchased this book when I first learnt of its publication, and I was not disappointed.

In a fast moving and well written manner the book discusses the problems, and solutions to these problems, encountered by young American atheists in the public school system. These problems centre around discrimination by their religious school mates, and school officials. One telling example from the book was a pastor who asked his students to draw a picture of both a christian and an atheist. The students drew the christian as a happy and good man, while the atheist was depicted as a drinker, a smoker, and a bad person.

In response to this, and more generally, to meet like minded people and to discuss issues, atheist students are now forming atheist clubs across the USA. It would be warming to be able to say that school teachers and administrators unreservedly performed their job and duty and helped and encouraged these students to do so, but this is not the case. Atheist students were confronted with opposition and outright vilification by their teachers and their school bureaucracy. More so, from their fellow students and parents, some students received physical threats. No sign of "love thy neighbour". In response many students successfully called upon the USA constitution, which separates church from state, in a bid for equal recognition and acceptance.

In the USA, it is illegal for public schools to promote religion, and schools must deal equally with students of all and no faiths. More so, atheist clubs are legal entities, and must be granted the same rights and privileges as other student groups. Interestingly, students can legally chose to remain seated and not recite the oath of allegiance, as it refers to god.

The book concentrates on examples from the lives of the students concerned. Interwoven with this is the wider world, parents (there's and others), the media, lawyers, the school, the community, priests and pastors, and how these affected the struggle by the student's to form their own groups and participate in their school life. It is very sad to say that some parents disowned their children when their atheism was revealed. Happily, the book does conclude with a realistic and optimistic view of the future.

The book is both a summary of the situation to date, and a primer on how to form and foster an atheist group at school. It contains examples, contact details, and text that will help any student interested in pursuing this worthy goal.

If you are a student, the parent of a student, either in or not in the USA, or you work or have dealings with a school or students, or if you have an interest in human rights, then read this book.

A much-needed and very readable book

This book, written by a high school teacher, explores difficulties experienced by high school students who do not believe in any god or who are wrestling with that issue. It is a very valuable guide for them, for their peers, for teachers, for parents, for school administrators, and for everyone who is willing to face this growing phenomenon among our nation's teens. It held my attention from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.

Useful Advice for Students and Teachers

This is a wonderful and much needed book that addresses being an atheist student in America today. The author, a long-time blogger, has a refreshingly clear writing style that is accessible to students, parents, teachers and the general public, who are concerned about how non-religious students are ostracized in public schools. I would particularly urge those who feel that organized prayer in schools hurts no one to read the first chapter and then imagine themselves in a place where their personal beliefs are denigrated.

Highly recommended

In this fascinating book, anthropologist Dr. David Givens explains how body language and other silent signals and cues work in the different phases of courtship. Along the way, he explains what the various signals mean, and where they came from. He doesn’t just look at gestures, but also at such things as colors, clothing, aromas and much more.

Overall, I found this to be a very fascinating book. Dr. Givens has produced the premier book on how to be successful at the game of human courtship, which applies to those who want to meet someone new and to those who want to maintain their bond with their spouse. I highly recommend this book!

If you want an eye-opener, this was it!

This book was facinating. It provides real insight into the human art of courting and mating and how we use our five senses in that pursuit! I was able to take the ideas from the book and apply them in life. I cued into many things we do between the sexes. I think all single people should read this. It's fun and it's well written.

I hold a PhD in applied economics from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest and a DPhil in Management Studies from Oxford University. I am course director for the MA in Management/International Business and a member of the executive team responsible for the postgraduate provision in the school.

Nick's research interests fall into three main areas: The study of friendships in the workplace, exploring how these relationships are understood and experienced by those who participate in them as well as how organisations understand and manage them. Recently, he has examined the role and meaning of friendship in the lives of gay men, exploring how friendships can provide forms of support and opportunities for constructing identities and selves. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) sexualities in the workplace. Nick has conducted research on how gay men negotiate professional, sexual and gender identities against a range of organizational contexts including those claiming to be ‘gay-friendly’. Critical management research. Much of this area has focused on how critical theory perspectives seldom used by management researchers (e.g. Queer theory and American Pragmatism) can be applied within the field of organization studies.
