OVERPRICED! Sadly not worth the price of admission at its current price point

Firstly, I would like to give the author credit for offering some different methods to what one may be used to when it comes to strength training. I will admit that I did not learn anything new but then again, after 10 years in the field, it becomes difficult to come across anything you have not seen before. However, its not the author's fault that his publisher overpriced his book.
With that out of the way, let me let you in on a little secret. The majority of reviews online and the push for the book comes from folks with vested interest in the book selling or are individuals who did marketing for the publisher. There is nothing wrong with this in and of itself other than all the fluff and extra hard selling they are doing on it. I came to find out about this book because I received about three emails from three different people whom I have purchased training and or fitness related items from in the past. The publisher did a great job generating buzz and marketing the book. The book is decently written but its more fluff than content. At this price, I would have expected way more than what I received. It was a disappointment for this reason. I need to once again reiterate that I am not bashing the author or his methods, but just that I feel that the way the book was marketed is a bit disingenuous and misleading. For example, the way the promotion is written you'd think this was truly something cutting edge and new you have never heard before (not the case) also the pictures are much larger than they need to be and its apparent to anyone who has read training books in the past its just to fill up pages. The pictures don't offer any detail to the movement that a smaller footprint sized picture would offer. I was able to finish the book in a day just reading a few pages here and there whenever I had breaks and before bed on the night I got the book. Its a 237 page book that could have easily been maybe 150 pages or probably less? Did I mention its overpriced? Can you get my impression of feeling like I got burned? :-)
Bottom line is, sadly it is just not worth what they are asking for. Perhaps at 1/2 the price, sure, maybe. There are much better books here on Amazon for less dollars. In these times where you have to watch what you invest in, I'd look elsewhere. Not to mention that this company has a history of overpricing things as well. Buyer beware. there are books available for half or less than half the price here which will be more accessible and get you similar results. I don't want to spoil the book as I am sure the author worked hard to bring this information to light but the implements needed to do some of the training, while simple/easy to create, are probably inconvenient and/or not practical for most people to use or create. Furthermore, from the perspective of the price you have to pay for this, stick with original source work from Pavel Tsatsouline as you will have a wider variety of immediately usable exercises to perform. Jon Bruney writes well and offers some good information, but the publisher messed up on trying to squeeze the consumer. Its just not worth the price. I rarely write reviews for lack of time but I had to throw my 2 cents out there. For all these reasons I can't with a good conscious give this book a higher rating. If it were not for the price and publisher trickery, I'd give it 3 stars.
Message to publisher and marketers, please get back to making good products and reduce the amount of this over use of backing each others products. You are diluting your brands and making yourselves out to look sleazy. Give the consumer a little more credit, we can see whats happening and its only a matter of time before folks start calling you out on this. Not everyone is drinking the kool-aid. You know who you are.

Challenging program for huge strength gains

Review – Neuro-Mass: The Ultimate System for Spectacular Strength by Jon Bruney
Neuro-Mass is a very well written, very well illustrated, very well thought out presentation of a rather complicated and different approach to strength development. Instead of lots and lots of iron over lots and lots of time, Jon has combined three approaches to strength into a system to jump start your body into wild strength and mass development.
First Jon takes what he calls a “neuro-set” and defines it well. A neuro set is 1) Grinds, 2) dynamic power drills, and 3) isometrics including some very slow lifts. Grinds are slow, controlled exercises that place resistance on large muscle groups. Dynamic power drills are rapidly executed movements. Isometrics are either static holds or very, very slow minimal ROM movements. Jon combines both kettlebells and body weight exercises in all three parts of the neuro set.
Then Jon lays out an extensive set of kettlebell and body weight exercises. These are varied, imaginative, and useful. The book is well worth the price just for the variety of exercises included. All the standard exercises are included. But also some things we don't expect or see much of elsewhere like “double kettlebell crucifixes,” “Kettle bell crush inverted row” “ballet squats,” “side step squats,”“double kettle bell outside the leg swings,” “anchor sprints” with the KB held either close to chest or extended out in front of the chest while sprinting, “double KB jump squats,” “double KB toe curl,” “double KB bear crawl.” This list goes on and on with large clear pictures and simple easily followed directions for each.
Jon lays out a four day a week program. There are options to do either a two day a week or three day a week. Here the user will have to use the book as a reference to choose the exact exercises. Each training day one does one neuroset for the upper body, one neuroset for the lower body, both in multiple rounds. Then add one neuroset from the supplementary sets (abs, grip or calves). Also an optional neuro-burner set can be added to the end of the workout. These instructions are clear and easily followed. There are some hybrid neurosets for special area of body emphasis.
Jon ends the book with recommending dynamic stretching and mobility drills for warming up. These are not included in this book. He also includes neuro striking techniques such as body slapping, body hacking, body tapping, and for the advanced, body pounding. Jon states one should stomp one's feet into the ground one time before each workout.
Will this work? I did not interrupt my current program to try it out. But Jon does have the credentials to write this book on how he trains for spectacular, world record setting strength. The program easily passes the three tests – 1) volume. 2) intensity. 3) time under tension. Following this program will require a fairly high starting conditioning level. The program is intensive and will require concentration and dedication and discipline – but so does every other successful program. Yes, the program will work as described.
Note that Marty Gallagher in the Foreword warns that Jon Bruney is a protege of John Brookfield. Marty notes that Brookfield, Bruney, Steve Justa and other iron pioneers champion “strength/endurance” or “sustained strength.” And, Marty Gallagher points out that major league, self inflicted physical discomfort (as differentiated from the pain of injuries) is needed to excel in sustained strength. Marty quotes Arnold Schwarzenegger “Those that can stand deep repeated trips into the pain zone might become a champion – those that cannot have no chance of ever excelling.” In other words, Marty is saying, “This is going to hurt!”

Not for Beginners....

While the format, terminology and abundance of pictures in it's simplicity in the book may seem like it was for the novice trainee, the concept and technique when applied into your physical training regime is definitely not.
Jon Bruney has spelt it out in this book so that even the average musclehead will get it, but this is definitely not a "musclehead" protocol.
If you are an intermediate or advanced trainee (ie know what you're doing) give the Neuro-Mass a try. :o)
