Below Expectation

I guess I was the first person who bought your book “MCSA Microsoft Windows 8.1 Complete Study Guide”, in fact I completed reading the book and I would like to give you my feedback, there is no doubt that the author has excellent knowledge in Windows 8.1 based on his experience but he failed in delivering the information to the reader, he assume the reader is mastering windows 8.1 and this book just to refresh his knowledge, also I’ve noticed that he go in more details explaining the old concepts which was used in the previous Operation System but when it comes to new technology or new features in Windows 8.1 he don’t say much and I have to go to the internet to understand because the book did not say much or in other word is not clear, finally in some chapters instead of explaining the point the author confuse the reader.

I prefer to buy Sybex books, but this is the first time to encounter difficulty with Sybex Books, overall I don’t recommend this book.

Worthless for 70-689

While the information in-general is educational, the book was nearly worthless on the 70-689 test I took today. Many of the questions had the incorrect answer in the Appendix, and some of the presented answers were laughable ("Go have a beer and give it a while - geez" was an actual potential answer in this book). Ultimately, this was a waste of money.

I was looking to take the upgrade exam from Windows 7 to Windows 8 but there really aren't any study materials for that test. This may be a better book for someone just getting into desktops but I didn't find it too useful as prep material for the upgrade exam.

Uncovering another layer of the genius that is Hitchcock

Baggett's and Drumin's collection on Hitchcock and Philosophy is the perfect blend of entertainment, suspense, and enlightenment. I teach and write on pop culture studies, and I recommend this book to both Hitchcock fans and those interested in film/culture studies.

The book has five main themes that provide readers with a variety of philosophical interpretations of the master's work. Each chapter is enjoyable, and will have you running to your collection to see if the authors are correct. Some chapters will even have you rethinking how you understand your favorite movie(s).

Here are a few of my favorite chapters:
1. "Rope: Nietzsche and the Art of Murder": Looks at the dark side of human nature and what happens when you start thinking you're greater than everyone else and have the right to murder those who are "beneath" you.
2. "Vertigo and the Pathologies of Romantic Love": Carroll does a wonderful job that has rekindled my obsession with Vertigo.
3. "Democracy Adrift in Lifeboat": Explains the many political and ethical themes represented throughout the movie.
4. "Ethics or Film...": Who doesn't love some McGuffin? It's a key feature of Hitchcock's skill as a filmmaker, and Wartenberg provides an intriguing piece about its role in North by Northwest, while also explaining the constant ethical ambiguities that occur.
5. "Rear Window: Hitchcock's Allegory of the Cave": Want to find out how Hitchcock explains reality and how we have knowledge of it? Then you need to read Silberstein's chapter.

this collection of essays reveals some juicy tidbits about Hitchcock and was at best thought provoking and at worst interesting. I did not always agree with the essays, but they made me think about the H. opus in a new light. Even non-specialists and those who are new to the field of philosophy will enjoy this book; it is very readable

What Missler does is show how the Bible is a self authenticating book, in other words it proves itself with hidden delights; And some of then hidden delights are hidden in plan sight. Missler shows how a genealogy in Genesis is also the Gospel story hidden in plan sight; Missler shows how the Writer of the Bible knew the value of pi to the 15 places, way back 1000s of years before computers; Missler shows how Prophecy, Patterns, The Stars at Night, and many other things prove out the Bible as true. This little book may cause you to never look at the Bible the same way again. Get a copy for yourself, and get one or more for your friends and family.

Is this in english?!

It's a difficult book to read. It assumes you are at graduate or post-graduate level and already know a lot about the topic. I am working on my Master's in Interaction Design and I found myself being forced to re-read paragraphs because I had no idea what I just read! On the other hand, the book goes deep into HCI issues and methods and often leaves you with good research questions. If you're looking for a book to help you with real issues related to interface design or product usability, this isn't it. This book is all about theory. It's boring at best.
It all comes down to this: If you're all about theory, this book is for you. If you want to be able to apply what you read to real-world situations - get something else.

Expensive Book and the Author is a Wind Bag

The text book.. I think the author is a wind bag academic that blathers on and on to show how smart he is.
The book could be edited to half the content, paragraphs could be concise and effective.
The author lacks pragmatic writing skills that convey a message clearly. He circles three times around a topic before he actually makes a point. It is like witnessing a Labrador take a dump, only it is required reading...

Constantly amazed at this book

Working through this book, I am constantly amazed at the number of topics covered and the depth and clarity of the authors (and in some cases, the entertaining story they tell). There is much important theory that exists in HCI and I have not found a book that does such a wonderful job bringing it, and the proper author to explain it, all together. Previously, it was a chore to track down the important theoretical works, not so now.
This book is NOT going to help you build better webpages or for that matter, teach you to build a better GUI. Do not expect it to as HCI is only marginally about this. HCI is more importantly about the work and activity people perform on a computer and through a computer with others. If you do not have this concept in mind, do not read this book as you will waste your time (and possibly write a bad review for it). If you are intrigued, read "The Design of Everyday Things" to give you the basic philosophy of HCI and this book to give you the theory of it.
Unfortunately, some chapters are not as strong as others and the binding of them all together is not as strong as it could be to give a complete picture of the field. That said, this is an important milestone for HCI and should be readable (and read) by all who have taken a basic HCI course.
